We have brought together some of our favourite UK rock climbing bloggers who have an impressive climbing CV collectively to back up their writing, bringing different perspectives on climbing life through interesting, informative, funny and inspiring blogs.
Dave Macleod – For all things training. You may have seen Dave in action in climbing films such as Echo Wall and E11. Dave is a true all round climber, hitting the top numbers in trad, sport, bouldering and winter climbs. His knowledge on training comes not only from a wealth of climbing experience but also from a degree in sports science. His online climbing coach section contains useful training tips as well as an online store of inspiring films and great books.
Nick Bullock – Living the dream. Nick is a professional climber who gave up a house and a full time job as a prison warden to live out of his van and climb. The blogs depict exciting tails of trad climbing in the UK to alpine mixed climbing in Europe and the greater ranges. Nick is a true inspiration to show people that it is never too late to give it all up and follow your passion. If you enjoy his blogs, he also has a book out called Echoes.
Calum Muskett – ‘The Ginger Ninja Youth’. A relatively new kid on the block but with an impressive climbing CV. He climbed the infamous Indian face E9 6c, on sighting E7 and big ticks in Scotland and the Alps. If you want a good mix of hard British trad and big Alpine faces then Calum is your man.
Hazel Findlay – The perpetual traveller. For those of you who saw ‘Spice Girl’ at The Banff Mountain Film Festival in 2013, you’ll know all about Hazel. She is a professional climber with E9 and 8c under her belt. Stronger and braver than most mortals, she is pushing the boundaries for British female climbing. If you’re wanting some female grit then Hazels your woman.
Andy Kirkpatrick – Humorous tails of bold big walls and gnarly mountain routes and normally solo. Andy is somewhere between a climber and a comedian. He writes books and does very entertaining lectures to fund his next adventure.
Shauna Coxsey – Top competition boulder. For an insight into life at elite level competition. Shauna competes on the world bouldering circuit and is pretty good! Last year she was Ranked 2nd overall and won two 1st place finishes. She has also done well on rock being the first British female to climb V12, V13 and V14.
James and Caroline Pearson – Globe trotting married couple. OK, I know Caroline is French but her E8 trad climbing skills make her an honorary Brit. These two have featured in a number of great films, such as Odyssey, and climbed all over the world. If you dream of climbing exotic places, with untouched rock then James and Caroline provide the inspiration.
Jon Griffith – Alpine photographer and climber. Jon is an incredible mountain photographer living in the Alps documenting amazing alpine ascents. Jon is also a top climber himself teaming up with The Swiss Machine, Ueli Steck, on a number of expeditions. You can also buy Jon’s work through his website.
Stevie Haston – Read Steve Haston’s blog! He is a legend of British rock climbing with classic routes such as ‘Comes the Dervish’, hard winter ascents and pioneering mixed climbing ascents. Stevie climbed 9a at 50 and at 58 still climbs 8a. Steve shows, it’s never too late to train hard and improve. Stevie provides an entertaining point of view on all things climbing from his home on Gozo in the Mediterranean. He is a prolific blogger with reams of past articles to peruse through at your leisure.
